A vintage ballad for a new audience

JOBURG - A touch of nostalgia or a cinematic experience for a new generation? Ballade vir ’n Enkeling is back and this time it's on the big screen.

Ballade vir ’n Enkeling, meaning ‘Ballad for an individual’ in English, was a popular South African TV series in the 80’s, and in 1987, the show surpassed viewer records in the country.

The story unfolds around journalist Carina Human, played by Fourways resident and 7de Laan star, Donnalee Roberts, who reveals the truth behind the disappearance of a popular writer, played by Armand Aucamp.

Roberts is a mirror of the tenacious character she plays in the film. She graduated from the University of Pretoria with a BA degree in acting and drama. Roberts then finished a two-year film school course at the Performing Arts and Lifestyle Institute in Pretoria where she played a number of leading roles in a variety of films. In 2012, she studied at the well-known New York Film Academy where she received a diploma for acting in film.

Roberts is now the co-owner of the production company 17FILMStreet Media. This company strives to produce quality stories that will take the film and TV industries to the next level. 17FILMStreet specialises in the development, producing and marketing of films.

While Ballade vir ’n Enkeling may ignite the feeling of nostalgia for fans of the original series, the big screen version is fast-paced and modern and will make fans of a whole new generation.

Ballade vir ’n Enkeling is showing at cinemas now.
