Find the Holy Grail of comedy at Montecasino

MONTECASINO - Playwright, Roy Smiles' brilliant history of comedy will come to a fitting climax with his hysterically funny Pythonesque, starting at the Pieter Toerien Theatre in April.

Having conjured up the spirit of The Goons in Ying Tong – A Walk With The Goons and resurrected the ground-breaking satire of Beyond the Fringe and Pete and Dud in Good Evening, Smiles will complete the trilogy in a play specially commissioned by Pieter Toerien.

Pythonesque tells the story of the Oxford and Cambridge graduates John Cleese, Michael Palin, Graham Chapman, Terry Jones, Eric Idle and the previously American, Terry Gilliam, who came together in 1969 to form one of the best loved comedy troupes ever, Monty Python’s Flying Circus.

Through some brilliant pastiches of the indelibly remembered sketches, Smiles tells the story of the Pythons and delivers some wry and very funny commentary on the world we live in at the same time.

Some of South Africa’s most talented performers will lend their comedic genius to the play. Graham Hopkins, Theo Landey, Robert Fridjohn and Russel Savadier will bring the magic of Monty Python’s Flying Circus to life.

Pythonesque will play at Pieter Toerien’s Montecasino Theatre from 15 April to 17 May. Performances are on Tuesday to Friday at 8pm, Saturday at 5pm and 8pm and Sunday at 3pm.
