Local cover band brings in new a new indie sound to the music scene

BRYANSTON - Local band Owl and Simone, in collaboration with Junipa's All Day Café and Bistro are hosting a Bond evening on 19 September.

They have promised to ignite the evening with their unique brand of passion and class with their versions of Skyfall, World Is Not Enough, Golden Eye, Dr No, and A View to a Kill.

Songwriter, guitarist and singer, Owl grew up with folk and rock and was exposed to a variety of music at a young age. In the mid-’90s he formed a band called Qkumba Zoo and was signed to Arista Records. After a whirlwind of successes he decided to go out on his own.

“Simone and I have worked together now for just over two years as Owl and Simone. This project is a cover duo project, and we are best described as alternative acoustic,” he said.

Their musical tastes are vary, which brings an eclectic mix of songs from the ’50s to the ’80s, to current radio hits.

Influenced by her musical parents, Simone threw herself into voice training and began flourishing in the industry. A lover of jazz, she has brought in a new and fresh take on contemporary music and has been compared to the likes of Heather Nova and Sarah Mclachlan.

The accomplished duo will be crafting an evening set to thrill with the James Bond theme, and a special menu created by Junipas accompanied, of course, with martinis.

“We love the quality, drama and pathos of the Bond themes, and have really enjoyed putting our own spin on these songs,” said Owl.

Join Owl and Simone at 6.30pm on Friday 19 September at Junipa’s All Day Café and Bistro. Bookings are essential.
