Afrikaans theatre comes to Monte

MONTECASINO - Vettie Vettie, a play that pokes fun at women's eternal struggle to shake off those excess kilograms opens at Pieter Toerien's Montecasino Theatre on 7 May.

With winter around the corner, bringing with it the prospect of bathroom scales heaving under the consequences of indulging in forbidden comfort food, Kosie House of Theatre presents light entertainment in this laugh-a-minute comedy. The play will mark the first time that an Afrikaans theatre production is staged at Pieter Toerien’s Montecasino Theatre.

The play centres around Vicky, played by Hanna Grobler, who is the successful owner of a bookstore in Hatfield, Pretoria. Vicky is single and visibly fat. When she meets the man of her dreams, Tom Delport played by André Lotter she decides to shed those excess kilos once and for all so she can claim her prince. Unfortunately losing the weight is not so easy especially when one of her housemates is a gourmet cook with a soft spot for her, and the other isn’t exactly tactful about what he thinks of her figure.

Vettie Vettie is directed by theatre veteran, André Odendaal and has been translated by Johan Bernard and adapted by Pierre van Pletzen from the hit comedy My Fat Friend.

The play’s first run is at Pieter Toerien’s Montecasino Theatre from 7 May to 1 June.
