MONTECASINO - Shows staged at Montecasino last year were big winners at the Naledi Theatre Awards on 19 March.

The Naledi Theatre Awards have been in existence for 10 years and are recognised as the premier awards event on the Gauteng theatre calendar. The awards recognise and reward excellence in the performing arts, raise the profile of live theatre, and create awareness of the abundant talent on South Africa’s stages.

Jersey Boys, which delighted audiences at the Teatro in Montecasino early last year, was a big winner. The biographical musical received the award for best actor for Grant Almirall, best musical direction and best production.

Sunset Boulevard, which was also staged at the Teatro, won three awards for best costume design, best set and best lighting design.

The heart-wrenching musical Blood Brothers, which was staged at the Pieter Toerien Theatre at Montecasino, took the award for best arrangements and Bianca le Grange, who gave the performance of a lifetime as Mrs Johnstone in the production, was honoured with the best actress award.
