Star power at Vrou Soek Boer premiere

MAGALIESSIG- Not only farmers search for wives.

Love is in the air, with the soon-to-be released Afrikaans romantic comedy Vrou Soek Boer.

But before its nationwide release on 6 March, South Africa’s glitterati got a sneak peek at the film’s Montecasino premiere.

Montecasino NuMetro rolled out the red carpet for a not-to-be-missed soiree for the freshly-hatched film’s all-star cast.

“I really like the genre,” said first-time director Maynard Kraak.

“Most moviegoers enjoy romantic comedies and they usually walk out of the theatre with a smile on their faces. We all need an escape from our daily routine. I believe our movie is going to make people forget – even for a moment – of life on the outside.”

According to Kraak, Vrou Soek Boer is targeted toward a female audience, but its ‘date movie’ appeal might make it a winner.

“There are enough twists in the plot and ample humour that will be enjoyed by men and the rest of the family,” he said. “The structure of the film brings something new and unpredictable.”

Vrou Soek Boer is a humorous love triangle that was filmed in Mpumalanga, in and around Wakkerstroom.

The leading cast includes Lika Berning, Nico Panagio and Bok van Blerk.

Berning plays Mareike, is a Jozi girl with a successful and demanding career.

Her love life is, however, flat-lining.

After a confrontation with her boss, she decides to swop the city for the platteland, planning to start baking at the bakery she inherits from a forgotten aunt.

But her new life in the small town is more than she expected.

She trades business savvy for an apron, but a nosy neighbour decides to put Mareike in the local newspaper so she can find a man. Only problem is, she has already found Mr Right.

Vrou Soek Boer has a strong supporting cast with well-known actors such as Marga van Rooy, Magda Beukes, Anrich Herbst, Julie Strydom, Anthony Fridjohn, Henk Hugo, Charlenè Brouwer, Almarida Reynecke, Martin Bester, Hennie Smit and Lindie Stander.
