Valentine’s Day in the city of gold
JOBURG - Don't risk the wrath of your other, significant or otherwise, by leaving your Valentine's Day plans to the last minute.
This February, restaurants and hotels have a number of options to suit the lovebirds of all descriptions.
Parktown North’s The Pudding Shop have put together a special Valentine’s Day menu, and will be open for dinner.
The bright and breezy vegan restaurant doesn’t force carnivorous diners to forgo meat, and has a good working relationship with a neighbouring restaurant that prepares its meat dishes.
The special three-course menu will include such delights as a salad of palm hearts with a basil, red pepper and parsley vinaigrette; oven-baked aubergine with chermoula, served with scented bulgar wheat and tzatziki; and poached nectarines and pineapples, served with ice-cream.
Independent cinema The Bioscope will mark the day with a special screening of Quentin Tarantino’s True Romance. Ticket options include the choice of enjoying a pizza and craft beer at The Chalkboard.
The film, a blend of action and dark comedy, stars Christian Slater, Dennis Hopper, Gary Oldman and Patricia Arquette.
Linden’s new eatery on the block, Angelo’s Deli, will be open for a four-course dinner including antipasto, a light pasta dish, a meat and vegetables dish, and a dessert.
A jazz singer will serenade diners during the meal.
Houghton’s Foxwood Theatre will offer a special dinner and show package. Guests can enjoy dishes such as gazpacho, foxwood salad, beef Wellington, Norwegian salmon, and strawberry cheesecake, before taking in Des and Dawn Lindberg’s show Still Truckin’.
Rosebank hotel 54 on Bath has a Valentine’s package on offer for those who really want to spoil their loved ones.
The package includes a welcome drink, an in-room delight, sundowner cocktails and canapes on the terrace, a five-course dinner, a romantic turndown, breakfast and a complimentary late check-out.
