Rocky girls say it like it is
JOBURG - The women cast members of the Rocky Horror Picture Show have given their take about the hype and hysteria that is Rocky Horror.
Daneel van der Walt who plays the intoxicating Magenta said Rocky Horror allowed people to reject the social conformity that is expected of them.
“Watching Brendon [van Rhyn] perform makes it alright,” said Van der Walt. “He is doing it, so why can’t we? It is alright to be rebellious and to be oneself.”
Van der Walt and her fellow women performers Sharon Spiegel-Wagner (Janet) and Dominique Maher (Columbia) agreed that the show’s appeal lay in its ability to throw the audience out of its comfort zone.
Speigel-Wagner and Maher are new to the cast of the provocative show, while Van der Walt is well-set in her role, having played Magenta throughout the Cape Town run of the production.
During their downtime, the girls have been enjoying yoga, ballet sessions and taking in some of Joburg’s finest lunch spots.
