More trouble for Sanral

JOBURG - The December holidays are over, and Joburg residents are, once again, sitting in traffic.

Oh, the joys of being a Joburger! One often hears Durbanites or Capetonians saying, “I could never live in Joburg, the traffic is awful!” Well, non-Gautengers, yes it is – but I can honestly say the better qualities of our wonderful city make up for the shocking traffic.

Although gridlock is something many residents can get used to, when you are paying for it – it’s another story. All over the city, one constantly hears residents’ bickering about our now infamous e-tolls.

Surely Sanral and local government should keep the highways in top condition, now that we are paying far more than a pretty penny to drive on these roads, and, considering the costs involved – they should be tarred with gold.

Traffic lights at on-ramps are still constantly out and although the extra lane helps, the highways are still an absolute mess every morning.

Residents, ward counsellors and this newspaper need to start putting pressure on Sanral and local government because the saying ” you pay for what you get” clearly is not true in this case.
