Junxion Gymnastics, in Fourways, excels at the recent SA Gym games

Fourways-based Junxion Gymnastics brought home the top honors from the South African Gym Games, held in Cape Town in September, including a first in the WAG level 5, 14+ years category.

Junxion Gymnastics, a local gymnastics club based in Fourways, is celebrating exceptional results from the South African Gym Games held in Cape Town from September 27–29.

This year’s event recorded the largest participation in its history, highlighting the growing interest in gymnastics across the country.

Owner and head coach Nikki Stubbs expressed pride in her gymnasts’ dedicated preparation for this prestigious event. “Our athletes underwent rigorous training, which included not only physical conditioning but also mental preparation and team-building exercises. We focused on enhancing strength, flexibility, and fostering a supportive team environment.”

Fifth Place: Addison Fenner.

Looking ahead, Junxion Gymnastics is gearing up for future competitions, with plans to elevate their gymnasts’ skills in preparation for next year’s competition season, which kicks off mid-year.

The club is also embarking on a fundraising initiative to send a team to the prestigious GymStars Competition in Malta in July 2025, where they celebrated a category win during their last participation in 2023.

Second Place: Kiara Sutherland.

To prepare for upcoming national and international competitions, the club’s training regimen will intensify, focusing on perfecting routines as well as boosting strength and flexibility.

Mental conditioning techniques like visualization and focus exercises will be integral to their training, promoting teamwork and resilience among the athletes.

Third Place: Owethu Ndlovu.

Stubbs also remarked on the competitive spirit exhibited during the Gym Games. “The competition was fierce, but it was inspiring to see our gymnasts not only challenge each other but also push their boundaries.

“This event exemplifies the discipline and commitment required in gymnastics, and both coaches and parents can take immense pride in these athletes’ achievements.”

Winner: Gabby-Leigh Tapson.

The standout performances from Junxion Gymnastics included:

• Winner: Gabby-Leigh Tapson secured 1st place overall in her category (WAG level 5, 14+ years), clinching 1st on beam, 1st on floor, and 3rd on vault.
• Second Place: Kiara Sutherland took 2nd overall in WAG level 4 (11 years), also earning 3rd place on vault.
• Third Place: Owethu Ndlovu finished 3rd overall in WAG level 4 (10 years) and achieved 2nd place on bar.
• Fourth Place: Leah Florence ranked 4th overall in WAG level 4 (13 years).
• Fifth Place: Addison Fenner finished 5th in WAG level 5 (12 years).
