Diepsloot Youth Programme netball team celebrates a successful 2021

DIEPSLOOT– Tlhabadira said things were however not easy for the team as some of their under-15 players had to use senior team’s kit and sneakers because they didn’t have enough kit.

Diepsloot Youth Programme netball teams were recently crowned champions of the 2021 Tshwane Netball League in the U19 and U15 divisions despite countless challenges they had faced during the course of the season.

Sophy Tlhabadira, executive director at Diepsloot Youth Programme non-profit organisation said the journey to success of the teams wasn’t smooth sailing.

“We joined Tshwane Netball League in 2020 to get our players exposed to opportunities since we did not have a professional league that we participated in,” she said.

“Our U15 and U19 teams won the league this year in their respective divisions. Two of our male players were also selected to play for Tshwane Twizza Squad in 2022.
“Our journey was not easy as some of our players did not have kits. Lack of resources forced us to use the same kit for the junior and senior teams.”

She thanked Itirele Zenzele Comprehensive School for allowing their teams to train on their netball court.
