Four Crawford water polo players to represent SA
LONEHILL – Olufunke Gando and Rebecca Currie have been called up to represent the country in the EU U17 Ladies Water Polo tournament. Both Jordan Solz and Jenna van den Bosch were called up as non-travelling reserves.
Four water polo players of Crawford International Lonehill are set to make their second international appearance after attending trials on September 4.
Grade 11 learners Rebecca Currie, Jenna van den Bosch, Olufunke Gando and Jordan Solz were selected for the SA U17 team which will participate in the EU Ladies U17 Water Polo tournament in Brno, Czech Republic from October 7 to 10.
The final SA U17 squad was announced on September 16 with Olufunke and Rebecca making the team and Jenna and Jordan chosen as non-travelling reserves.
All four players previously represented South Africa in a tournament in Windhoek, Namibia in 2019. They said it was a unique experience and felt huge pride representing the country. “We were playing with our opponents from other provinces. We’ve never really interacted with them as teammates. Representing the country meant an absolutely big deal,” Jordan said.
The national team had a training camp before the nationwide lockdown and the girls said keeping fit during that time proved difficult.
Despite their various ambitions, all four aspire to represent the country in the Olympic Games.
