The final SA U17 squad was announced on September 16 with Olufunke and Rebecca making the team and Jenna and Jordan chosen as non-travelling reserves.

All four players previously represented South Africa in a tournament in Windhoek, Namibia in 2019. They said it was a unique experience and felt huge pride representing the country. “We were playing with our opponents from other provinces. We’ve never really interacted with them as teammates. Representing the country meant an absolutely big deal,” Jordan said.

The national team had a training camp before the nationwide lockdown and the girls said keeping fit during that time proved difficult.
