Local riders shine at the FEI World Dressage Challenge

FOURWAYS – Chief administrator at Fourways Riding Centre, Surei Botha says the FEI World Dressage Challenge is a global challenge where countries compete riding the same prescribed dressage tests.


Local horse riders shined at this year’s FEI World Dressage Challenge hosted by Fourways Riding Centre on August 29 in Fourways.

She said this year’s event, attended by Gauteng horse riders, was a great success. “We were fortunate to have Fouad Hamound, the FEI 4 judge, be our president of the ground jury assisted by Lesley Mawhinney, a national A-panel judge. We had two riders selected to represent South African team, Sonica Engelbrecht riding Umberto and Carl Boonzaaier riding T.I’s Sparticus,” Botha said.

“Sonica Engelbrecht riding Umberto, representing the South African team, won the FEI Intermediate I Challenge. Carl Boonzaaier riding T.I’s Brenda Lee, owned by Ina Kruger, took the first spot in the FEI Prix St Georges Challenge. Everyone had a lovely show, and a big thank you to the sponsor Arco360 for amazing prizes and beautiful rosettes,” Botha added.
