Local dressage rider shares helpful tips for those without an instructor

KYALAMI – Siobhan Records shares training videos following wins at Pre-Easter Festival wins.

Top dressage rider, Siobhan Records has followed up her wins in various competitions before the lockdown by providing helpful videos for other riders who need to train without an instructor.

Most recently, Records took seven horses to the Pre-Easter Festival at Kyalami Park Club to take a handful of medals.

These included a wins for Precious Pony in the the inter A division, Raindancer in the A4 and Seeis Sopranoure in novice 6.

Records also earned second-place finishes for Rosie Lee M in elementary 5, Neopolitano Theodora in M6 and Seeis Sopranoure in the novice 5 divisions.

Furthermore, Rathmor Caprice was awarded the Horse of the Year.

But the work has not stopped for Records since the lockdown, and the postponement of the Easter Festival has only pushed her to to work even harder in new areas.

“I have done videos for Kyalami Park Club and HQ magazine to help people train,” she explained.

“I still have my own workout routines and schooling horses to do. I have started doing yoga through a website and there are lots of challenges you can do at the moment.”

Records has even been spring cleaning and baking bread, but her work in the saddle has seen as many changes lately.

In addition to the videos, Records has worked her horses in areas she does not often get a chance to, such as practising pole work and the Spanish walk, which stretches a horse’s muscles extensively.

The Dressage South Africa Challenge, which was scheduled for early May, has been postponed country-wide. The Gauteng Dressage Championships is scheduled to take place at Kyalami Park Club from 30 May to 7 June but time will only tell if that goes ahead.
