Central Gauteng Lions board demands Cricket South Africa CEO Thabang Moroe resign
ILLOVO – Community members came in their numbers to Imperial Wanderers Stadium as Cricket South Africa held a public meeting to address the current concerns on the state of cricket in South Africa.
Cricket South Africa (CSA) gave cricket fans, sponsors and stakeholders a chance to speak to CSA board members at a public meeting held at the Imperial Wanderers Stadium tonight (5 December) after several controversies that have put the body in a state of disrepute.
Community members took up the invitation and came in large numbers to voice their concerns about the state and administration of CSA. They asked why it took so long to take action on CSA’s poor administration.
The CSA board has seen two resignations from Iqbal Khan and Shirley Zinn, adding pressure on other board members to resign. The reputation of CSA took a bad turn when they withdrew the media accreditation of five prominent journalists who reported on problems at the governing body.
Other issues include that interim director of cricket Corrie van Zyl, commercial manager Clive Eksteen and COO Naasei Appiah were immediately suspended, believed to be in connection to a payment dispute with players in last year’s Mzansi Super League.
It was confirmed that CSA board members Jack Madiseng and Jono Leaf-Wright were to speak tonight but only Leaf-Wright was in attendance, including representatives of many local cricket clubs.
