Volunteer at Myrun

Myrun is looking for a very enthusiastic person who would like to give back to the community by leading a Myrun volunteer team to host an event.

The run is Discovery Vitality driven and community-focused. The fitness initiative was formed to target all audiences by hosting free weekly run or walk events, regardless of the level of fitness.

It was launched in May last year and has launched a total of 40 venues to date throughout South Africa. One of these venues is in Chartwell at the Ark Animal Centre.

Myrun manager Leigh Buckle said, “The run is there [Ark] every weekend. It is such a lovely venue, as the participants get to take a rescue dog for a run and the kids get to play with the puppies.

“The purpose [of Myrun] is to make a difference in communities through our events by encouraging and inspiring people to be more active through all stages of their lives. We have a passionate team who are driven to offer the best events and a group of enthusiastic volunteers who help us achieve this.”

The events are hosted every Sunday and are open to everyone including children and most of the venues are pet-friendly.

All registered Discovery Vitality members will earn up to 300 Vitality points for finishing the 5km route and up to 100 points for finishing the 2.5km route.

Buckle added, “The benefits of being part of the weekly run is getting out into the open in a safe place with like-minded people, and to feel included and accepted no matter what your level of fitness.

“Furthermore, the events encourage families and doggies to join so it is a nice family outing. Also, Discovery Vitality members get up to 300 points for completing a Myrun event.

“We also have partnered with Fitbit where we run competitions and both our volunteers and participants stand the chance to win Fitbit devices every month as well as weekends away, just by coming to our events.”
