Northerns Football Club begin training

KYALAMI – Local soccer club is eager for new season to begin as training gets underway.

Players at Northerns Football Club have begun training and look forward to another good year in their respective divisions.

Club owner, Theodora Crozét said the club once again made its presence known in the North Rand District League last year. The U8 team reached their cup final while the U11s and U13s finished second in their league divisions.

Official league matches for this season will only get underway in a month or two. Until then practice is the name of the game.

Northerns FC has grown from 110 players to 170 in the past 12 months. It has also seen a move from Beaulieu College to Curro Waterfall until the end of March, after which the club will move to Reddam House Waterfall permanently.

“Training is going well and we plan to host some friendly matches on 16 March,” Crozét said. “The matches will be at Curro Waterfall and anyone interested is welcome to come to watch.”

The opponents, time of the matches and age groups involved are still to be confirmed.

According to head of coaching and development at Northerns, Nevada Manna, the club does not focus on winning matches at all costs, but rather learning through victory and defeat alike.

“Our main focus is to have players develop the correct technical abilities rather than a must-win attitude,” he said.

Nevada added that the club’s main aim for the season was to increase participation among all its players and ‘create confident and well-rounded children through our structured and well-organised training sessions’.
