Even out the playing field in Kya Sands informal settlement

KYA SANDS – Thanks to a combined effort from Rotary and World Sports Betting the youth of Kya Sands now have a new soccer field to enjoy

Young soccer players of Kya Sands informal settlement will now have the chance to enjoy the game and hone their skills with the introduction of a soccer field in the area.

Fourways Main Reef Rotary Club teamed up with World Sports Betting to give back to the community and create a stadium-sized, grass-covered soccer field at The Life Tree Primary School in Kya Sands worth about R400 000.

The children who previously played soccer on an uneven piece of sandy ground, have now formed a team, Life Tree Lions.

“World Sports Betting took the project under their wing, supervising and funding all necessary work,” said Steven Margo of the Rotary Club.

“Not only did they fund the entire cost of the field but also kitted out the teams. Fifa-regulated netting was also provided for the goal posts. It was a long, hard and at times frustrating undertaking having to build up the field due to a high water table, and level off the ground.”

Due to lack of water pressure in the area, Northcliff Rotary Club and Fourways Main Reef Rotary Club had to source and fund JoJo water tanks and a pump for the irrigation system, ensuring that the entire field could be regularly and properly watered.

A sponsor is being sought to fence off the area.

Ryno du Plessis of World Sports Betting was proud of the accomplishment and thanked Paul Westcott and Christopher Thompson of Rotary for assisting in the supervision and overseeing of the project.

Margo concluded, “A special thanks to Wayne and his team from Life Green for the actual building of the field and the countless hours they spent in making this a reality. And we’re not forgetting Warren Tannous and the directors of World Sports Betting for their extremely generous financial contribution.”

The Life Tree team can now keep the children safe and off the streets.
