It’s all in the serve: Dainfern Tennis Club is launched

DAINFERN – A new tennis club has been launched at Dainfern Lifestyle Estate.

The launch of the Dainfern Tennis Club can be characterised as smashing.

Residents of Dainfern Lifestyle Estate got into the swing of things with a full day’s programme of tennis on their three courts and a game or two of beach tennis on their volleyball court.

Club chairperson, Merryl Flynn said there had been tennis coaches and informal events at the estate previously, but the official launch of the club on 29 September had ushered in a new era of tennis in Dainfern.

“We are launching internal leagues, ladders and club championships and next year we will join Tennis South Africa’s Central Gauteng League to play competitively,” she added.

“We have coaching under the Tennis Inc company that will provide private and group coaching to young and old, beginners and advanced.”

Flynn said the club was currently only catering to residents of the estate, and the support from its residents had been exceptional.

On the first day, 20 children and close to 20 adults signed up.

Flynn and Gaynor Harris, a partner at Tennis Inc, believe even more residents will join in the coming weeks and help make the club a great success.

“I would definitely encourage residents to join,” said Harris.

“They would have access to coaching, the ladders [system for ranking a group of tennis players], championships and leagues.”

She hopes to promote tennis as a family sport at the club.

Many children living in the estate sign up to play tennis at the launch of Dainfern Tennis Club.
The tennis courts are abuzz at the launch of Dainfern Tennis Club.
Head coach, Lovemore Kadzora and Tennis Inc partner, Gaynor Harris present an award to Arjun Bajwa for winning a junior advanced group tournament on the day.
Sang Song and Lovemore Kadzora win the adults doubles fun tournament.

“Tennis is a sport you can play at any level and with anyone. The children who come play will learn social skills and life lessons such as discipline and concentration and improve their physical abilities.”

The club also plans to launch beach tennis officially in January next year.
