Teranga Stables riders are ready for the Eventing Inter-Provincials

KYALAMI – Riders from Teranga Stables do a round of cross country ahead of national competition.

Riders from Teranga Stables completed a solid round of cross country at Northern Farm ahead of the upcoming Eventing Inter-Provincials.

The competition will be held from 23 to 25 June at Pondarosa Ranch in Nelspruit, which is owned by Sean Eggersglusz.

The first day will comprise dressage, the second cross country and the third day, showjumping.

Four Teranga Stables riders are ready for this, having put in the practice across all three disciplines.

Clear skies and a warm sun blessed the scenic Northern Farm, as the riders practised their jumps over the unusual obstacles that make up cross country.

Keeping horses confident as they approached the ‘crocodiles’, barrels and fences was key, and through good horsemanship, they cleared every jump.

Furthermore, none of the horses appeared worried as they walked through the pond of water on the course.

“We want to do as well as we can at inter-provincials and clear the cross country,” said stables owner, Patrick Brown.

“Any rosettes or clears is great. We are also showing support to the venue which is hosting the competition for the first time.”

Brown will be competing in the 90cm and 1m individual categories with a horse called 50 Shades.

On the day though, he took a younger horse, Wow’s Sibylline to get the horse used to cross country.

Brown’s wife, Jane, will compete in the 80cm individual category on Wow’s Lighting the Fire.

Then, competing for the Gauteng team, Alex Niyaki will jump 90cm on Final, and Maritha Erasmus will compete in the one-star category with The Hakeman.

“In cross country, you need to complete all the jumps in the allotted time. The trick is to always keep your eye on the watch,” Brown concluded.
