DON’T MISS OUT: Run for Wings for Life this Sunday

SUNNINGHILL – This is what the Wings for Life Run is all about ...

Pieter du Preez, a professional quadriplegic athlete is encouraging community members to participate in the Wings for Life World Run on 6 May in Pretoria.

Du Preez, a Fourways resident said, “On 6 October in 2003, I was training on my bike and a car knocked me over. I broke my neck and it left me as a C6 quadriplegic, meaning that I am only able to move my head and shoulders with limited function in my arms and no hand or finger movement.

“The world run is about finding the cure for spinal cord injuries as 100 per cent of the proceeds made from race entries will go towards the Wings for Life – Spinal Cord Research Foundation.”

The foundation is a non-profit organisation which funds world-class scientific research and clinical trials around the globe aimed at healing spinal cord injuries.

Du Preez is an actuarial analyst by profession and has never let his physical disability get the better of him.

“It was very important for me to find a positive in the situation I was in, and believe it or not, I woke up in hospital and it took me one second to accept it as I gave myself the courage to carry on with life.”

Along with being a Wings for Life World Run ambassador, Du Preez is also a motivational speaker and spends his time sharing his story with others to inspire them to do more with the abilities they have been given.

Check the Wings for Life World Run website for more details.
