Kyalami Motorsport Festival proves a hit again

KYALAMI – Thousands are entertained at the Kyalami Motorsport Festival.

Thunder could be heard coming from the Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit on 24 March, but the sound was from the engines of hundreds of racing vehicles.

The Kyalami Motorsport Festival proved a rip-roaring event this year, entertaining thousands with everything a car or motorbike fan could ask for.

Seven championship races were held throughout the day, ranging from the Engen Volkswagen Cup and Investchem Formula 1600 to extreme supercar and superbike races.

There was something for everyone, with the most beautiful cars and bikes on show, food stores, jumping castles, face painting and more.

“We’ve come to show our boys all the cars and races,” said an excited father of two, Gerhard Joubert.

“It has been a great family event.”

Phumzile Dlomo said she came to watch the Polo Cup because she drives a Polo and would like to see what the car can really do in the hands of a professional racer.

“The festival has been exhilarating, I’ve loved it,” she said.

Sisters Bronwyn and Hannah Jones joked that they were there to see the ‘cute’ racing drivers in the Polo Cup, but really they were there to watch the racing.

As the engines finally died late in the afternoon, spectators headed home after having their fill of racing thrills.
