Dainfern Lions Football Club hosts annual prize-giving

DAINFERN – Read what the chairperson of Dainfern Lions Football Club had to say about his top achieving players.

Dainfern Lions Football Club hosted their annual prize-giving ceremony at Dainfern Golf and Country Estate.

According to the chairperson of the club Nic Papas, the young players were excited to find out who would be this year’s boys and girls Club Player of the Year.

The boys’ award went to Jordan van der Westhuizen, son of singer, Amor Vittone. “He was selected together with another eight fellow club footballers from Dainfern to represent the Rand Central League Football Association Districts Team in Spain in July this year as a defender,” said Papas.

Anika Bruehwiler won the girls’ award. “She has been playing with the boys for three years in a row now and has shown them that girls have what it takes as well,” said Papas. “This year the club announced it was going to begin taking in girls and as a result entered an U10 girls’ team.”

Papas thanked all the parents and congratulated the players on their achievements. He made special mention of the club sponsors including Axtel Communications, Vodacom Fourways Mall, Mark White Nissan and Contract Car and Truck Hire.

He highlighted that without sponsorships, the 50 players at the club from Diepsloot would not be able to participate. “The sponsorship covers their kit, registration fees as well as transport to and from away games by taxi and runs for an entire year.”

Registration for the next season opens on 1 December and players can register on the club’s website www.dainfernlions.co.za
