Caf star on horizon for United

JOBURG – The million dollar questions is whether SuperSport United will go all the way to earn the Caf star.

SuperSport United is confident of donning the much sought after Confederation of African Football (Caf) star on their jersey by beating TP Mazembe over two legs in the Caf cup.

Speaking at the launch of the South African Breweries’ (SAB) non-alcoholic beer aptly named Castle Free, SAB League ambassador and SuperSport United player Reneilwe Letsholonyane said they were confident of going all the way in the two-legged final of the Caf cup.

In the first leg, SuperSport will be away to Mazembe in the Democratic Republic of Congo on 17 November with the return leg scheduled for 24 November at the Lucas ‘Masterpieces’ Moripe Stadium in Atteridgeville outside Pretoria.

Letsholonyane, the midfield kingpin of SuperSport, said they were unfazed by the exploits of their opponents in the Caf cup competitions. Mazembe are one of the most decorated teams in Africa outside of Egyptian and Tunisian sides.

“We’re confident of standing our own ground against the formidable opponents, especially in their own backyard which has become known as a fortress because of the noisy and rowdy spectators where very few teams come out with a win,” Letsholonyane said.

“Although as a team, we may be new boys in the competition, our coach [Eric Tinkler] has been around these shores before and he has defeated the same club. So I don’t see why we cannot emulate that same feat, especially under his guidance.”
