A swing and a smile for Leeuwkop ladies golf league team

FOURWAYS – The Leeuwkop ladies golf league comes to an end and their already excited to start their new season. Read here to be part of the fun.

The Leeuwkop ladies golf league team took time to reflect on their golfing year.

“The season has come to an end as it runs from February to October,” said the team’s captain Karolynn van Vuren. “Our focus is now going to be in choosing the team for next year.”

According to Van Vuren, who has played golf for 20 years, all of their opponents were fierce competitors and anything could happen on a competitive day on the course.

“Golf is 20 per cent physical and 80 per cent mental. It’s that mental component that can see you the victor or the loser at the end of the game.

“The winner is the team with the most points at the end of the season. Each game yields a maximum of six points and we have about five or six teams in each division, and we play a home game and an away game for each team. We should hear the results for each division by the end of November.”

Van Vuren described the team as a fun group of ladies and many of them had been part of the club for many years.

She said they plan an annual golf weekend away and this was open to all the women members. Van Vuren added that these weekends were always filled with good times and their dictum was ‘what happens there, stays there’.

She encouraged women to join the golf league team and said members go out of their way to make newcomers feel welcome.

Leeuwkop ladies golf league team end their golf season with smiles.

“We need more ladies to join the club. We are very small unlike most other clubs and the ladies are allowed to play any day and at any time.”

The team’s youngest player is 16 and their oldest player is 75 and Van Vuren said team members reckon she will play well into her 90s.
