Communities cycling for tomorrow

FOURWAYS – Qhubeka, Rush Natural Nutrition and Cycle Lab join effort to move communities forward.

Rush Natural Nutrition is supporting Qhubeka, a non-profit organisation, in a campaign to raise funds to donate bicycles to people in disadvantaged communities. The company is collaborating with Cycle Lab to run the campaign which will end on 31 July.

Cycle Lab customers who buy a Rush bar when they visit the Fourways, Pretoria and East Rand stores before the end of July, can be instrumental in changing people’s lives with bicycles. For every bar sold, Rush Natural Nutrition will donate R2 to Qhubeka and people who purchase Rush bars, will be entered into the campaign competition.

“Qhubeka is a Nguni word that means ‘to progress’, ‘to move forward’,” explained Matt Fendick, client relations director at Qhubeka.

“Basically, we use bicycles to move communities forward. We partner with the community, public sector, private sector, and non-profit organisations to develop our programmes, which focus on providing people with bicycles in return for working to improve their community, environment or school attendance. By purchasing Rush bars [until] 31 July, people can help us to fund more bicycles for people who work to earn them. Bicycles help people to travel faster, further, carry more, be fitter and access more options, including healthcare and educational facilities,” said Fendick.

5 DIY play projects for parents and kids

Lara Maré van Niekerk, co-founder of Rush Natural Nutrition said the prizes include Rush bars, Rush caps, Qhubeka bracelets, Qhubeka shirts and Rush cycling gear. “The prizes can be found on cog tickets in selected Rush bars and can be redeemed in store until 31 July. We hope that this campaign will encourage people to consider the role they play in mobilising communities and to reflect on what they need to remove from their own lives to shift up a gear and propel those around them forward,” said Van Niekerk.
