Meet Team Nissan’s new star in showjumping

FOURWAYS – The talented Cheyenne de Beer joins Team Nissan's show jumping team.

Fourways resident Cheyenne de Beer (16), who has been riding competitively since the age of eight, has joined the Team Nissan showjumping team and is very excited about her new venture.

Team Nissan is based in Chartwell, on a property that belongs to Barry Taylor and Lorette Knowles-Taylor, who are both seasoned riders.

“Our vision at Team Nissan has always been to give a young rider the opportunity to excel and get exposure,” said Barry Taylor.

“We have developed Lexi Stais, who is now competing on the international circuit with great success, as well as Zoleka Mosiah and Liam Stevens. Cheyenne comes with an impressive CV and is a great future talent; so we hope to give her some opportunities to develop and show her potential.”

De Beer currently rides a wide variety of horses.

“Nissan Colombia’s Luigi di Cantero is my Grey Belgian warmblood, Nissan PITU 014 is my bay Westphalian, Nissan Callaho Rambo is a South African warmblood, HHCU Seattle Breeze is a bay thoroughbred and Nissan Lady Grace is a five-year-old grey mare,” De Beer explained, adding that she rides purely for the passion and the love of riding.

De Beer loves to spend time with the horses and the feeling that she gets when she rides. “I have been very fortunate to have incredible coaches who have given me confidence. They have given me every opportunity to improve and to gain the experience I needed to get to where I am today.”

Coaches who have influenced the young and talented rider have been Joanne van Achterbergh, Chad Cunningham and the power duo Lorette and Barry Taylor.

“My parents have also been very supportive and have been there for me through everything. Their encouragement has helped me get through all of my obstacles.”

Cheyenne currently lives in Beaulieu, Fourways.

Lorette Knowles-Taylor said she was super excited to have De Beer on board. “She has already won the Philip Smith Memorial Trophy in her first quarter with us. She is a team player and we look forward to many successes with her on our team,” Knowles-Taylor said.
