Morningside golfer Stacy Bregman to play in the Chase to the Investec Cup

FOURWAYS – Read about Stacy Bregman who is making her way to the top in her golfing career.

The Chase to the Investec Cup for Ladies is next on Stacy Bregman’s golfing to-do list while on her way to the top.

Bregman lives in Morningside and from 10 to12 March, this local hero will be competing in the golf tournament. She began her golfing career when a friend introduced her to the game one summer when she was 13 years old. Ever since, Bregman, now 17, has aimed for greatness in her golfing career.

When Fourways Review asked Bregman why she is so devoted to the sport, she said ‘the sport is beautiful; you get to play it out in the open and it can never be perfected’.

“I am playing for the top 10 rankings in the order of merit for the Ladies Sunshine Tour to qualify, which we will know after the Joburg Open,” said Bregman excitedly. She added that the tournament would be no walk in the park as there would be talented golfers such as Leanne Pace, Ashleigh Buhai and Carrie Park taking part, but she was prepared and ready for the challenge.

“I like to do a lot of drills working on my swing/short game, which my coach has set out for me. Then I like to put it under pressure by playing games to test myself,” Bregman explained.

She admitted that the sport did take up a lot of her time and she has had to sacrifice things such as family gatherings, but added that she loved competing.

“It does get stressful from time to time as the travelling can play a big role but that’s when you need to schedule breaks to recharge the batteries,” said the disciplined sportswoman.

Winning the world amateur title, victorious three times in a row a few years ago on the Sunshine Ladies tour, finishing 12th in the order of merit in Europe and playing golf with a lot of great people around the world are just a few of the highlights Bregman shared. She did, however, miss her family when she was touring constantly, but her friends and family have always supported her dream to the fullest.

“My ultimate golfing goal is to reach the top 10 in the world rankings and win major events,” added Bregman, who looks up to golfing heroes Gary Player and Anika Sorenstam.

This is not the last that we will hear from this local sporting hero, climbing the steps to victory.
