Dainfern Lions Football Club is excited to announce that they are introducing an all-girls soccer team from ages eight to 11.

According to the chairperson of the club, Nic Papas the teams will also be able to participate in official leagues whether against boys or girls as the club is affiliated to the Rand Central Local Football Association.

“We have our South African National Soccer team called Banyana Banyana who are already competing on a national level, why not start them from a young age and hopefully one day they can compete up there with the best in the world,” Papas said.

He added that there had been great interest shown in such a short space of time. “We are appealing to all new and existing members, if you have a sister, a cousin or simply a friend, come along and give it a try.”

Training begins on 1 February and trial sessions will be held on 23 and 25 of January from 4.45pm to 5.45pm.

“One of our soccer moms, Justine Ryan, has taken it upon herself to spearhead this initiative and the club has also employed a female coach for the girls and our local coaches will be on hand to assist,” Papas concluded.
