Bowling over the competition
DAINFERN – A Dainfern College pupil has had a smashing success in a recent indoor cricket tournament.
He is only 11 years old, but Luke Carter may one day be giving AB de Villiers a run for his money.
A Dainfern College Grade 5 pupil, Carter spent part of his recent school holidays playing for the Central Gauteng U11 A team in the Junior Interprovincial Action Cricket Tournament.
In the tournament, Carter was selected as team captain and recognised as an all-star player. He was also awarded the best bowler and best player trophies for his age group.
Carter and his teammates received gold medals for winning the tournament in the U11 category, which took place at the Edenvale Action Sports Arena.
“It makes us feel very proud,” said Dee Carter, the cricket star’s mother. “And cricket isn’t the only sport he plays.”
The budding sportsman plays indoor cricket in winter, outdoor cricket during summer, and also participates in swimming and athletics, and plays golf.
“He has been playing in the Sandton Sharks Junior Action Cricket League since Grade 3,” Dee added.
Carter will play for the Johannesburg Far North Cricket Team at the Gauteng Primary Schools Cricket Festival in October.
“I want to be a professional cricketer,” said Carter when asked what he wanted to be when he grew up.
