Off-season Soweto derby sold out

JOBURG – The Carling Black Label Champion Cup has been sold out.

Sold out signs have been put up for the Soweto derby in the 2016 Carling Black Label Champion Cup between arch-rivals Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates on 30 July at the FNB Stadium.

The Carling Cup has proven to be a popular off-season event on the SA football calendar and tickets are officially sold out – close to 20 days ahead of the much-anticipated football showpiece.

The overwhelming reaction by South African football fans, in five consecutive years, shows that this is not a normal derby but a distinctive one as it gives them the privilege to influence the starting line-up and the opportunity to Be the Coach.

Vijay Govindsamy, Carling Black Label general manager at South African Breweries expressed his delight at the response from lovers of the beautiful game just before he hanged the sold-out signs.

“This is another milestone for us at Carling Black Label. It speaks volumes about the initiative, also showing that the fans are hungry for football action. The Carling Black Label Champion Cup comes at the right time. We would like to thank our Champion Coaches for their continued engagement and support of this unique initiative.”

Although tickets are sold out, fans can still win tickets by listening to the Sekunjalo shows on SABC Radio. Those supporters who cast their votes can win great prizes including a share of R3-million worth of airtime and match tickets to the showpiece event on 30 July.

The big prize offers a unique opportunity only available through the cup game, allowing two lucky fans to experience their team in training, sit in the pre-match briefing and be part of the dug-out with their favourite team.
