Dream come true for Dainfern College

DAINFERN - Finally realising a longtime dream, Dainfern College was proud to launch the opening of their hockey AstroTurf pitch on 30 March.

Principal Matthew Davies said, “Three years ago one Sunday, I had the privilege of being shown around Dainfern College and we came down to what was a rather sparse field and I was told that this is where we were going to have AstroTurf one day.

“In three short years, what a privilege it is to be standing with this magnificent facility behind us.”

He thanked the Dainfern College board for supporting their vision as well as other members of staff.

Comparing the AstroTurf to a field of dreams and a metaphor for life, Davies, encouraged Dainfern pupils to chase their dreams, “For you as hockey players it’s going to be following that dream and getting onto this magnificent facility… you will experience disappointments, anger, despair, frustration and the pain of loss but, equally, you will experience camaraderie, friendship, the importance of teamwork and the sweet taste of victory,” he said.

“If you dream, if you participate and if you stand up and be counted, your dreams will come true.”

The opening was attended by parents, teachers, past and present pupils as well as a few celebrities. Attendees also had the opportunity to watch three hockey games, which were played by pupils and a team of celebrities.
