Showjumper’s hopes for this season

BLUE HILLS - Showjumper, Vincent Moemise, hopes for a successful showjumping season ahead.

“I recently sold my top horse and just got a new horse, so my goal for this season will be to [get] this youngster to jump a 1.30m track by the end of the year,” Moemise quipped.

The 24-year-old showjumper started riding because of his love for animals. “The moment I realised I wanted to make a career out of the sport was when I was nine years old. I would sit on my adoptive mother’s horses and ride the horses. From that moment I knew that it was something I wanted to do – and thanks to Team Nissan they have made many of my dreams come true,” Moemise said.

In 2012, two years after starting showjumping, the Blue Hills-based showjumper’s hard work earned him a sponsorship from Team Nissan. Although the sport is still dominated by white riders, Moemise believes that young black people should not be deterred by a lack of funds if they want to take part in the sport.

“Team Nissan has a development programme which they can go to, and my door is always open for those who are keen to learn,” he said.

Moemise will be taking part in the 6th Nissan Easter Festival which is taking place at Kyalami Equestrian Park from 19 to 28 March.

The showjumper added that another of his goals was to continue with his personal growth within the sport and to encourage other people to participate in the world of showjumping.

“My ultimate dream is to one day ride in the Olympics, win a world cup and ride in the derby,” he revealed.
