WATCH: Pink day match a huge success

JOBURG - The Pink One Day International match between the Proteas and England was a huge success, as the event raised more than R500,000 towards the Pink Drive.

The Bidvest Wanderers Stadium was packed to the rafters, as thousands of cricket fans came out in their numbers, decked in their pink gears, in support of the Pink Drive.

For every four that was hit in the game, R1,000 was donated to the Pink Drive.

R10,000 was donated for every catch taken while R15,000 was given for every six caught by a spectator.

The money generated from the event will be donated towards the fight against breast cancer. Proteas fast bowler Kyle Abbott said he was delighted to play in the Pink Day match as it is all for a great initiative.

“Most people have either been affected or have people close to them that have been affected by the disease. To go out there, to play and represent those people is quite an honor. It’s not only another ODI but something with a bigger picture of life which is amazing. Thanks to everyone who dug deep into their pockets, and raise some money,” said Abbott.

Proteas came into the match as undefeated champions, having never lost in a Pink Day match, and did not disappoint as the fans were treated to another thrilling encounter.

The Proteas completed a great day both on and off the field when, former Bizhub Highveld Lions player Chris Morris came to the rescue for the home side as England looked to be taking the game away.

Morris played in what he described as the best innings of his life, as he smashed his way to 62 off 38 balls to help the Proteas reach their target of 263 with six balls to spare.
