Young football fanatics in for a treat

KYALAMI - Young football fanatics are in for a treat with this year’s Kyalami Knight Riders Football Club offers.

Mentor Peter Grgin, the head co-ordinator of the club who conducts practises from Kyalami Estates, said his philosophy in sport, and more especially in football, is to have fun.

“I encourage all the children in the team to have fun when playing, which is an essential component to this sport.”

The club offers for children are as follows:

  •  A safe, local environment to play football
  •  Organised training and in-house matches
  •  Alternative sporting recreation
  •  Social and self-development (self-confidence building)
  •  Team participation and team building
  •  Skills development.

The offers for parents are as follows:

  •  Convenience with no travel outside the estate, unless pre-agreed friendly matches are arranged
  •  Membership open to non-estate families
  •  Safe surroundings within the estate
  •  Culture of disciplined behaviour for children and parents alike
  •  Soccer exposure for their children at all skill levels.

The first-class football coaching will be coached by Grgin who has more than 30 years of playing and coaching experience. Each child will be individually assessed to determine their skills and maturity level. Previous exposure to the sport is not needed and coaching is open to both boys and girls.

There will be emphasis placed on:

  •  Giving children an enjoyable experience
  •  Teaching players the fundamentals of the game
  •  Skills development
  •  Team participation and co-operation
  •  Camaraderie and improved fitness.

Training times are on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 4.30pm to 5.30pm. Players under the age of four can join training between 3.45pm to 4.30pm on these days.

Winter season will be in February to July and friendly matches will be arranged against other estates once a month.

The costs are R3 300 for winter season and the fee includes shirt, shorts and socks. Additional equipment needed are shin pads and soccer boots.

The club invites parents and children from outside the estate to also join a fun soccer club for children from three years to 10 years of age.
