Bryanston resident puts the oar in

BRYANSTON – Alex Roberts, a resident from Bryanston, made the local community proud following his recent performance at the N4 Trac Lowveld Crocodile K1 River Race.

The Triple A-rated river race, which took place in Nelspruit and comprised two days of racing, saw Roberts beat off stiff competition to clinch second place, just behind Phineas Zulu.

Jennie Dallas, public relations officer of the Gauteng Canoe Union, elaborated on his finishing time.

“[Roberts] finished both races, each 30km, in an overall time of four hours and 16 minutes, coming in second in the senior age group,” she said.

The senior age group is open to canoeists between the ages of 19 and 34 and is considered the most competitive group within the sport.

Dallas added that Roberts was a highly respected river canoeist who had taken part in white water races competitively for a number of years.

She further explained that, following his impressive placing, Roberts would partner with Zulu for the upcoming South Africa K2 River Championships which will take place in October in Cradock as part of the Hansa Fish River Canoe Marathon.
