Momentum Cricket Sixes a big hit

JOBURG - The second edition of the Momentum Cricket Sixes held at the Wanderers Sports Club saw a number of former and current sporting legends in action as they did not let the bad weather conditions dampen their spirits.

Despite bad weather conditions, the second edition of the Momentum 2015 Cricket Sixes Invitational held at the Wanderers Sports Club saw a number of former and current sporting legends in spirited action.

Although the event was shortened due to the weather, this did not hamper hundreds of enthusiastic supporters cheering from the sidelines.

The crowd was thrilled to see musicians Ross Learmoth of Prime Circle and Just Jinjer’s Ard Matthews take part in the cricket action, as well as rugby legends such as Stephan Terblanche, Brent Russel and Percy Montgomery.

“We would like to thank everyone who took part in the event. From the cricket and rugby legends who took time out of their busy schedules to join us, the sponsors who backed us every bit of the way, and to the guests who joined us on the day,” said Graeme Smith, former Proteas captain and co-founder of the event.

Smith said he was happy that everyone had a great time and that some people had their dreams of playing against their cricket heroes realised.

“At the heart of the Sixes is the chances to spend time with new and old friends and, at the same time, to give back to two very worthwhile initiatives,” said Smith.

The two charities that will benefit from proceeds raised from this event include the Rhino in Safe Hands initiative under the patronage of former cricketer Mark Boucher, and the Momentum 2 Excellence (M2E) bursary programme.
