Dancing all the way to Europe

BROADACRES – There are few things more expressive than dance.

This is something very familiar to hip-hop artist Tumelo Sekgota, and Unity College is proud to announce that their star pupil will represent South Africa at an international dance championship in July.

Sekgota has always been a passionate dancer and began taking classes at the Kim Field Dancing Academy two years ago.

Sekgota recently competed along with 43 other participants to be part of the 15-member squad called The Bratpack.
This team will represent South Africa in their respective age groups and styles at the New Prague Dance Festival to be held in the Czech Republic from 4 to 10 July. Not only did Sekgota secure a top spot, but so did her little sister.
“We are extremely proud of her,” said Unity College spokesperson, Michelle Kirk.

“Tumelo wrote an examination, as well as demonstrated her dancing skills, and secured one of 15 positions for this national dance team after receiving a whopping 98 percent for the examinations. It’s fantastic.”

Come rain or shine, Sekgota trains hard to be at her best and is at the academy every Saturday putting in hours upon hours of practise. When asked what it would mean if The Bratpack received a gold medal, she said enthusiastically, “I hope that people will become conscious of me as a dancer because I wish to be an entertainer performing in groups. This win will solidify my exposure to put me on the map for great things to come.”
