Fighter soldiers on to global stage

DOUGLASDALE - Garreth 'Soldierboy' McLellan will compete in the biggest international mixed martial arts spectacle, The Ultimate Fighting Challenge (UFC).

Seven years of highs and lows in the cage has finally culminated in McLellan’s opportunity to compete on the world stage.

McLellan first made his entrance into EFC’s hexagon at the age of 26 after a career in rugby didn’t pan out. After an undefeated amateur record, he made his first professional appearance at EFC 1 and the rest is history. Soldierboy is now a household name.

McLellan is the current EFC Africa middleweight champion after fighting his way back from double knee surgery, an 18-month recovery process, beating three other fighters and eventually defeating Jeremy Smith to win the belt.

Now McLellan will test himself in what is considered the most competitive and testing mixed martial arts environment there is, the UFC.

The UFC has a massive viewership worldwide and this opportunity gives McLellan a shot at testing himself against the best in the world on a global stage.

McLellan’s pivotal fight at UFC will take place on 11 April in Krakow, Poland, but Fourways residents can still get in on the action by attending the Fight Fit Militia fan park where the fight will be screened, at 97 Maxwell Drive, Sunninghill.
