Local residents wow at Dusi

SANDTON - With only 73 boats finishing the gruelling 120km Non-Stop Dusi Challenge, Sandton and Fourways residents Kelvin Byres and Ryan Rodda wowed the crowd when they finished 21st at the event on 6 March.

Spokesperson for Dusi Jennie Dallas said, “Like the world-famous Dusi Canoe Marathon, the Non-Stop Dusi Challenge starts in Pietermaritzburg and ends in Durban, with a variety of sections of the river where boats have to be taken out of the water and carried or dragged during the portage.”

The challenge also involved racers taking on the Valley of 1000 Hills in KwaZulu-Natal while testing their physical endurance as well as their river knowledge.

Having finished the Dusi Canoe Marathon in February, Byres and Rodda teamed up to take on the Non-Stop Dusi Challenge, finishing the race in 11:03:00 as the 21st team to cross the finish line.
