Young lions are undefeated

DAINFERN - Dainfern Lions ended the year on a high note.

The soccer club had a total of 278 members this year, 45 of whom were from Diepsloot. According to the chairperson of the club, Nic Papas, most of the club’s teams ended up in the top three positions in their league. The U9A team walked away with numerous prizes this season. They played 29 games, won 23 and drew six. The team scored a phenomenal 79 goals and conceded only 16.

The club’s good results were due to coach Goncalo Pinto. Pinto is from Lisbon, Portugal, and his techniques and coaching abilities proved to be very valuable to the club.

At the club’s prize giving ceremony, Papas informed members that the club was in financial difficulty due to lack of a sponsor. He said it was one of the few clubs which sourced and paid professional coaches, and subsidised players from Diepsloot.

Registration for next year’s season opens on 12 January and Papas said he was looking forward to an even better year.

If anyone is interested in sponsoring the Dainfern Lions, they can contact Papas.
