Fourways duo paddle their way to the top
FOURWAYS - Nicolas Roody and Kate Babrowski paddled their way to victory at the SA K2 River Championships.
Despite an overcast and misty morning, the pair participated in the event on 16 August at Florida Lake Canoe Club.
The 22km race from Daleside to Meyerton, included numerous training rapids which Fourways residents Roodt and Dabrowski had no problem negotiating.
After deciding to take the turbulent line on the right of the first rapid known as Mine Rapid, the pair finished successfully as the 18th finishers in the overall trial. The duo managed to qualify 11th in the double boat segment and third in the mixed-double in their first river race together.
Many paddlers have been training for the Hansa Fish River Marathon to be held in Cradock in October later this year. The epic race will feature 80km of wild white rapids for avid paddlers.
