Young golfer is climbing the ranks

SUNNINGHILL- St Peter's College pupil, Kaleigh Telfer (15) is a budding golf champion.

Telfer is currently ranked number two on the Women’s Golf South Africa junior ranking and number seven on the ladies ranking.

She won her first provincial ladies championship in November last year and her first provincial junior championship in December. Telfer also achieved first place junior finishes in four other provincial ladies championships.

Last year the young golfer was the first young woman in the history of the Bryanston Country Club to win the club’s prestigious Ladies Club Championship and the Junior Club Championship. Telfer is one of the youngest players to have won the Ladies Club Championship.

By the age of 12, Telfer had achieved a single digit handicap and is currently playing off a one handicap.

Telfer received the Most Improved Ladies Golfer award last year and also received her Gauteng colours. In January this year Kaleigh became only the second girl to be selected to join Ernie Els and Fancourt Foundation.

Telfer’s was also selected to join the Women’s Golf South Africa elite squad. The squad competes internationally and players are given the opportunity to earn their Protea colours.

“I think what I like most about golf is playing tournaments out on the course,” Telfer said. “I enjoy golf because it is an individual sport and it is super competitive.”
