Kyalami set for action-packed horse trials

KYALAMI - The inaugural Polo International Horse Trials will be hosted from 4 to 6 October in Kyalami.

Horse trials, otherwise known as eventing, is an Olympic equestrian sport where horse and rider combinations compete against other each other across three

disciplines of dressage, cross-country and show jumping. This event has its roots in a comprehensive cavalry test requiring mastery of several types of riding.

Marketing manager of Polo South Africa Laura Stewart said, “Hosting The Polo International Horse Trials is a great brand alignment for us and we are

very excited about this initiative.”

Top Australian Olympic silver medallist, Clayton Fredericks will host the course walks and share the inside story on his Olympic experiences.

Top technical delegates of the Federation Equestrian International will be flown out from New Zealand and the United Kingdom to officiate at this event.

Top riders will open the event on 4 October from 10am, by riding their dressage tests in the Peter Minnie Arena at Kyalami Equestrian Park.

Polo South Africa will launch their spring/summer range to South Africa’s fashion media and socialites alongside this arena from 12pm.

The extreme discipline of this sport, the Cross Country phase, will take place on 5 October at Inanda Country Base from 9am.

There will be 150 riders taking up the challenging 5km cross-country track, jumping immovable obstacles such as the Broken Bridge, The Polo Water

Complex, The SAPPI Bank and the Dairy, within a preset time.

The final challenge will be the show jumping phase in the Bob Charter Arena on 6 October in front of 8 000 spectators where only those riders with big match temperament will come out on top.
