Fourways dojo team shines

The 4Ways Dojo, an affiliate of the Inner Strength Martial Arts Academy, under the auspices of Shihan Arnold De Beer, went through two years of selections for the World Goju Ryu Championship which was held in Stellenbosch, Cape Town on 13 to 15 September.

After the final selection this year in June, Stef Biagioni, Silvio Biagioni, Victoria West, Dylan Kotze, Cheyenne Barros and Slade Taylor were selected in their respective divisions. “Unfortunately Victoria West had to withdraw due to an injury,” said Sensei Stef Biagioni. “This tournament was of an extremely high standard with some of the world’s best continental, European and world champions,” Biagioni explained. Thirty-two countries participated in the event.

“4Ways Dojo received a fantastic result totaling five gold medals and two bronze medals. Slade Taylor must be congratulated for his excellent double gold in the team event, individual kumite and 3rd in kata. Dylan Kotze also received double gold in the team event and individual kumite and must be congratulated. Last but not least Silvio Biagioni for his 3rd place bronze medal for his kata division, narrowingly losing to Germany who placed in the final with Italy.”

Biagioni said, “This was a very well organised and successful World Championship, setting the tone for the next World Goju Ryu Championship in New Zealand in 2015.”
