Squash World Masters Games title holder off to Italy

KYALAMI - Kyalami's gold medal title holder at the World Masters Games is not going down without a fight.

Trevor Wilkinson is prepping his squash skills to defend his title at the games which will be held in Torino, Italy in August. He won gold during the 2009 games in Sydney, Australia.

Wilkinson said, “It is not often that you get to win gold medals, so I managed to secure a sponsor and hence defend my gold medal. I am seeded at number one for the tournament and I am feeling confident. I am fit and injury-free so that helps towards building my confidence.”

He will play from 2 August, with the final scheduled for 11 August.

Wilkinson has followed a five-day-a-week training regime for around 40 years, and with top achievements such as three times World Masters Champion and three times South African National Champion, he feels it keeps him in prime physical condition. He practices on the court and exercises in weight sessions two to three times a week.

“Winning would be great but if I don’t, I will not lose sleep over it. I am blessed in so many other ways in my life which are worth way more than a gold medal,” said Wilkinson.
