Earthworks team wins rally
MIDRAND - The South African Earthworks team, namely Nic Van Der Westhuizen and Stefan Cilliers, claimed the podium in their maiden Super 2000 Challenge.
The Volkswagen Rally is held in the Eastern Cape. The Midrand pair battled through the two-day, 13-stage event.
They encountered problems with braking and navigation but held fourth position in the S2000C class.
The team enjoyed a clean run through the remaining stages of the rally, and after the final gravel stage they managed to grab a place on the podium.
Team member Nic Van Der Westhuizen said, “The Volkswagen Rally is an awesome event and very well organised. I would love a chance to drive on those roads with a proper rally car.”
The next challenge for the SA Earthwork’s team is the Pretoria-based Ford Dealer Rally on 16 and 17 August.
