Jozi, Durban, Cape Town takes top 100 spots in Africa in international study

Durban along with Joburg and Cape Town distinguished themselves in the 2018 Mercer Quality of Living Ranking report as having the highest quality of living in Africa, a fact which many local property owners already know. Find out where other African cities ranked and which city achieved the title of best in South Africa.

The potential of looking for property for sale in Gauteng have been definitively validated by the most recent edition of the Mercer Quality of Living Ranking report which rated Johannesburg as one of the cities with the best living conditions in the whole of Africa. The city came in at 95th place on a global scale but ranked as the third best city to live in on the entire African continent.

However, on a countrywide scale, Durban takes the top spot (89th) as the best city to live in South Africa, ahead of Cape Town (94th). Providing fantastic weather all year round, a warm Indian Ocean, great schools, free-flowing traffic and excellent value for money in the property market, Durban boasts a lifestyle which is hard to compete with.

Port Louis (83rd) is the highest ranking African city for quality of living At the other end of the scale, N’Djamena (226), Khartoum (227) and Bangui (230) were the lowest ranked in the African region. Persistent political instability, poverty, extreme climates and lack of appropriate infrastructure investments means these cities have the lowest quality of living worldwide. Europe performed the best in general with Vienna coming in first place for the eighth time in a row.
