Corona Chonicles: Are mops considered an ‘essential’ item?

Community member, Tracy Schloesser shares her social distancing experiences in a very witty series she is calling her Corona Chronicles. In today’s post, she explains how she has mobilised the troops to ensure that the home barracks stay spick and span.

So the most important thing about being in a lockdown situation is to mobilise the troops to ensure that the home barracks stay spick and span and there is always a clean wine glass available at any given time of day. A duty roster was thus drawn up and the family went into action.

HP (Husband Person) is in charge of mowing the lawn, being on dog poo patrol and filling wine glasses. He also cooks dinner when I am unable to surgically detach myself from my work desk.

SP (Son Person) is in charge of mopping and sweeping and does it with such vigour and force that I have found the mop whimpering quietly in a corner afterwards. (May have to schedule some mop therapy in at the end of lockdown methinks).

DP (Daughter Person) is in charge of ironing – my least favourite job in the whole world. I would rather run butt-naked on a Saturday morning at month-end through Sandton than iron one T-shirt. But she does it with a smile while she watches her series. Bless her little cotton socks.

The Sergeant Major of the house (aka Mom Person) is in charge of everything else. I tried to restrict my duties to only drinking wine and reading books but sadly that isn’t working out that well.

We have even tried to mobilise the Chocolate Logs (dogs) to make them pick up their own doggy poo but sadly that isn’t working out so well either. They have, however, upped their licking game considerably and delight in cleaning each family member ‘eleventy’ seventy times a day.

And as for her Royal Highness Liquorice Veronica Schloesser (aka the small black panther that thinks she is a distant relative of Cleopatra) – well she just demands food from the human people at regular intervals and then sleeps away the rest of the day. In my next life I am SO returning as a cat!

Just a thought – does anyone know if mops are considered an ‘essential’ item?
