LETTER: Disrespecting neighbours with fireworks

Tony Caenazzo writes:

Once again certain people sought to disrespect the peace and serenity of their neighbours with loud noises to celebrate Diwali. Surely the Festival of Lights should be celebrated with pretty lights and not noise.

My area had 98 very loud bangs over a period of slightly over an hour. No thoughts were given to sleeping babies waking in terror at the unexpected explosions, not to mention the thousands of cowering pets.

Why can’t the authorities identify an area easily accessible to Johannesburg residents but being at a central point where the closest inhabited dwelling is not closer than 10 kilometres?

Everybody willing to harm their hearing or waste large sums of money can congregate there on Guy Fawkes night or at Diwali and thereby give no offence to others.
